The month and the week has been unbelievable in Tiger Land. One former Tiger gets a promotion to Double A and another one strikes out the best player in baseball. We also have current Tigers who hit their first grand slam and another who saved the game with a web gem play.
I love being a part of this club!

1/ Breaking News: High Bat Speed Doesn't Guarantee Success
Last week, MLB dropped the mother load for baseball geeks. As the trend of metrics continues to eat the game. MLB Statcast which can be found at MLB.comgives you a comprehensive review of on field play. It's most popular stats when it first was introduced to the public were pitching velocities, spin rate, and exit velocity. They added more metrics this past week by revealing average and max swing speeds, swing length, and bat path.
With the additions of these metrics X.com has exploded with conversation, but the touch point that has teachers baffled is the uncorrelated relationship between on field success results and bat speed.
Example that Jeff Passan of ESPN uses is Shohei Ohtani vs Javier Báez vs Luis Arráez. Both Shohei, the best hitter in the league, and Javier, worst hitter in the league, have high bat speeds, but Luis has one of the slowest and is considered one of the top 10 hitters in Major League Baseball. This makes you wonder, is there a point where bat speed doesn't matter?
An old video of Nick Saban, the former University of Alabama football coach, surfaced around the same time as the release of these metrics. It might provide us an answer. (Watch it here)
Read the full article from Jeff Passan for a full breakdown. Just a heads up, the title of the article is one of the worst titles in the world in peaking interest, but the content inside is a great read.
2/ Is this the most intense player in college sports?
In a recent video, the popular social media replay commentator, Jomboy did a review of the University of Texas outfielder Bella Dayton triple in the gap. Is this the most competitive player in the game?
Salute to the Head Coach of Valparaiso! At the beginning of the year he asked the Missouri Valley to let their senior day be played on the last weekend of the season against Indiana State University. Why? Kaleb Hannah is a infielder for the Beacons and his dad is the Head Coach of Indiana State University. So, in a classy fashion, Head Coach Mitch Hannahs came up to home plate for a picture with his son and switch out his Indiana State hat for a Valparaiso hat.
