Meme of the week:
The Big 3 of the Week
What I'm following
1/ How hard to Henry Rowengartner throw?
In the 1993 film, Rookie of the Year, Thomas Ian Nicholas plays a middle school boy who was not very good at baseball but loved the game. The Chicago kid breaks his arm while at recess, which puts him in an abnormal cast.
When he fully recovers, he realizes that he has an unbelievable ability to throw the ball hard. The debates surfaced amongst fans of the movie: How hard does Henry actually throw?
Well, with a bit of basic math and the scene from him throwing a home run ball from centerfield, there has surfaced a conclusion!
2/ Can you use your batting helmet to touch the base?
Pete Crow-Armstrong stirred up a debate when he used his helmet to hold onto the base as he was being tagged on an over slide. The rule book states that the fielders glove is an extension of the fielders body, so does this apply to the runner and his helmet? See the play here.
3/ NCAA Lifting the 11.7 Scholarship Limit for Division 1 Schools?!
Surprising news with the potential reversal of scholarship limits in the NCAA. For those new to the recruiting process: the NCAA has regulations for scholarships that can be handed out to a new recruiting class. Example: at the NCAA Division 1 Level schools have a maximum of 11.7 athletic scholarships they can provide for their roster each year. The school has the option to max out the limit or offer below that limit.
A lawsuit by an Arizona State swimmer, however, is challenging this rule. Grant House is seeking damages dating to 2016 for athletes who were not able to earn a compensation from their Name, Image, and Likeness and also seeks revenue from the NCAA and conferences media rights deals. The settlement is estimated to pay out $2.7 billion and change how the NCAA operates.
12U Dalzell is looking for one more player to round out their roster for Cooperstown on June 7-13. Please reach out to Coach Aaron for details and more information.
