NCAA Makes Two Big Changes To Recruiting And A College Coach Brings the Heat on Recruiting Services

What happened? NCAA dropped to big bombshells over the weekend. Here's the Rundown:

Baseball News: College coaches cannot speak to prospects about scholarships until the fall of their junior year. (full tweet conversation

All-Sports News: Prospects can take an unlimited amount of official visits. In the past they were limited. (full story

Now, who is this college coach? Mt. Hood Community College Head Coach tells players he will not recruit them if they use an online recruiting service. With a polarizing tweet, the coach tries to explain the value of developing relationships. Online recruiting services are known for allowing players to send mass emails to college coaches. Essentially spamming the coach's inbox.

What can we learn from this? Coaches love it when a player knows their information. They also want to see them play. So, developing a relationship is uno numero one when trying to play in college. In our Recruiting Tactical Guide we talk about what matters.

Spark notes version:

1. Go to their college camp

2. Follow up, Tweet

3. Play a strong summer schedule and stack skills

4. Follow-up, Tweet

5. Get your metrics validated by a third party

Why Are the New NCAA Rules Important?

The new ruling has potentially halted early oral commitments but has offered coaches the ability to bring their key prospects on campus even if the player has already taken their 5 official visits.

See the new recruiting model and its laws here.

Keys to know:

1. Coaches can talk to you at college camps but can't speak to you about scholarships until you're in your junior fall semester.
2. Coaches can't be in contact with you until your junior fall semester.
3. It's effective April 26th, 2023.

The Rundown

If you liked the article above, you can subscribe to the Rundown newsletter. It's same, but different. But still the SAME.

Actually, the Rundown is a baseball and softball newsletter. It keeps you in the loop so you can look cool in front of your friends. Kind of like Buzz Lightyear sharing his space expertise in front of Andy's toys.
