COACH Donnie Vasey

Who am I? My name is Donnie Vasey. I grew up right here in the local community and graduated from Valley High School as a three-sport letterman. Baseball has always been a major part of my life. I continued my baseball career at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, where I was given the opportunity by Miami Hurricanes head coach Turtle Thomas. After one season, I earned a full athletic scholarship to return home and pitch for the Pitt Panthers. Unfortunately, my playing career was cut short due to a torn rotator cuff. But the game never left me. That experience reshaped my perspective. It taught me how quickly the game can be taken away—and how important it is to truly understand it while you have the opportunity to play. That’s what led me to coaching. My focus goes beyond fundamentals. Fundamentals matter—but understanding how the game works is what builds confident, instinctive players. Too often, players are trained physically but hesitate in key moments because they don’t fully understand the situation in front of them. I strive to help players develop their baseball IQ—learning how to think the game, anticipate it, and react with confidence when it matters most. This is about more than reps. This is about preparation. This is about confidence.
